The School

"The school gives a high priority to the welfare of the pupils, who are well cared for in its family atmosphere."-

Ofsted Report November 2006

“This is a good school. It broadly achieves its aims of providing a secure base for pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities and ensures most pupils have received a good quality of education by the time they leave at sixteen.”

OFSTED Report March 2009

Our school occupies Burys Court, a beautiful Victorian mansion providing nursery, pre-prep and preparatory education for 2-11 year old children. The children can then proceed into the Senior School, Moon Hall College, which shares the site. The school has been revitalised following its acquisition by Moon Hall Schools Educational Trust in April 2005.

In an idyllic countryside setting a few minutes drive from Reigate in Surrey, our extensive grounds include a bluebell wood, a walled garden and an orchard, as well as sports fields and lawned areas.

Since its acquisition, the Governors and staff have carried out a comprehensive programme of improvements, including the installation of a state-of-the-art computer suite and a new, fully equipped Design Technology room. At the same time, the heritage of this beautiful building has been respected and its original features have been maintained.

An important added extra is Moon Hall’s expertise in the education of dyslexic children which comes from the school’s experience over more than 20 years.  The school is organised in a way that maximises the children’s ability to learn.

The School is being extended up the age range with the creation of Moon Hall College, dedicated to the education of dyslexic teenagers (and others who wish to benefit from small classes and individual attention) up to and including GCSE. All Burys Court students have the choice whether or not to join Moon Hall College when they have completed their education at Burys Court. Some also stay to 13 and take Common Entrance at that stage.

The Staff

Under the leadership of Berry Baker, Founder and Principal of Moon Hall Schools, the teachers at Burys Court and Moon Hall College have all the expertise required to deliver the specialist education that enables the school's pupils to fulfil their potential.

Each dyslexic pupil has his or her own teaching plan and specialist support is given on an individual basis as and when required.

Most importantly, staff will work to build on the strengths of each child and so develop confidence and a sense of self-worth in all students. This is frequently a key aspect in helping students to improve performance and meet new challenges in a positive way.

A countryside school

The clean air and the peacefulness of the location are quickly appreciated by parents and welcomed by the children. Our beautiful and extensive grounds, with trees for climbing, woods for building dens, lawns to play on and fields for team games, are an integral part of the children's school life.
