The School

"The school gives a high priority to the welfare of the pupils, who are well cared for in its family atmosphere."
- Ofsted Report November 2006

Our school occupies Burys Court, a beautiful Victorian mansion providing nursery, pre-prep and preparatory education for 2-11 year old children. The children can then proceed into the Senior School, Moon Hall College, which shares the site. The school has been revitalised following its acquisition by Moon Hall Schools Educational Trust in April 2005.

In an idyllic countryside setting a few minutes drive from Reigate in Surrey, our extensive grounds include a bluebell wood, a walled garden and an orchard, as well as sports fields and lawned areas.

Since its acquisition, the Governors and staff have carried out a comprehensive programme of improvements, including the installation of a state-of-the-art computer suite and a new, fully equipped Design Technology room. At the same time, the heritage of this beautiful building has been respected and its original features have been maintained.

An important added extra is the Moon Hall Phoenix Dyslexia Centre. Drawing on Moon Hall School's 21 years of expertise in helping dyslexic pupils, the Phoenix Centre supports the school's dyslexic children in small groups using specific teaching methods throughout the curriculum. Although the pupils may spend more time on developing their literacy and numeracy, there is no subject that is neglected as a result.

The School is being extended up the age range with the creation of Moon Hall College, dedicated to the education of dyslexic teenagers (and others who wish to benefit from small classes and individual attention) up to and including GCSE. All Burys Court students have the choice whether or not to join Moon Hall College when they have completed their education at Burys Court. Some also stay to 13 and take Common Entrance at that stage.

The Staff

Under the leadership of Berry Baker, Founder and Principal of Moon Hall Schools, and our Headmaster, David Rowlands, the teachers at Burys Court and Moon Hall College have all the skills and competencies required to deliver the specialist education necessary to enable School's pupils to fulfil their potential.

Each pupil in the Phoenix Dyslexia Centre will have his or her own teaching plan and specialist support will be given on an individual basis as required.

Most importantly, staff will work to build on the strengths of each child and so develop confidence and a sense of self-worth in all students. This is frequently a key aspect in helping students to improve performance and meet new challenges in a positive way.

A countryside school

The clean air and the peacefulness of the location are quickly appreciated by parents and welcomed by the children. Our beautiful and extensive grounds, with trees for climbing, woods for building dens, lawns to play on and fields for team games, are an integral part of the children's school life.
