Admissions

Burys Court welcomes applications on behalf of girls and boys from any educational background. Admission is based on interview.

We always recommend a visit to see the School and to talk with staff before a registration is made. This ensures the child will be happy throughout their time at Burys Court, enjoying the range of different tasks they will face throughout their education.

A good way of gaining a broad view of the school is to attend an Open Day. You will be able to meet the children and staff, be given a tour of the grounds and facilities and to talk to the staff about your child's possible education at Burys Court School.

Whilst we welcome all applications, we regret that the nature of the Victorian building we occupy means we are unable at present to make provision for applicants (pupils or staff) with a severe physical disability such as one requiring the use of a wheelchair.

We warmly welcome you and your family to join us at a forthcoming Open Day or on a previously arranged visit. Please see our contact details to arrange a meeting and we look forward to seeing you.

Admission to the Dyslexia Centre

Parents who would like a place at the Phoenix Dyslexia Centre should request an application form and detailed confidential questionnaire by contacting the Principal, Mrs Baker, or by means of the on line request form below.

As a small specialist school with a limited number of places, we have to carefully assess the suitability of each pupil before making a decision as to whether we can offer a place. Burys Court will not offer any dyslexic child a place unless the staff feel confident that they can help him or her. We only accept children when they have joined us for at least one morning to see whether they fit in with the existing pupils in their likely grouping. Their visit should result in them wanting to join us. We cannot accept children whose behaviour may compromise the learning of others.

Acceptance of a place

Once a place has been offered the payment of a deposit and acceptance of the Moon Hall terms and conditions will be necessary to secure it. The deposit will be refunded once the pupil has left.

Consultation

We are frequently asked for advice regarding children with dyslexia and related needs both in respect of an application for a place at our school and more generally.  We are happy to provide this advice quite objectively and in the best interests of the child concerned.  Because of the time and commitment this involves, we charge a consultation fee of £50 for anything longer than 15 minutes up to an hour and pro rata if more than an hour).  If a place is offered and accepted the amount of the consultation fee will be deducted from the fees for the first term.
